Collection: Peter Scherps

Peter Scherps is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Baasrode.

In his work, he explores the complex, fragile, and transient relationship between humans and their environment. His quest for expression leads him to seek elements that give shape to his abstract imagination and whirlwind of thoughts. Peter is deeply drawn to and moved by creation, vulnerability, transformation processes, and impermanence.

“My work is deeply rooted in a fascination for the fragility and transience of our environment, shaped by various processes of change. In my artistic vision, the human-made world takes center stage. I find it a confronting fact that human thoughts, desires, and actions, both directly and indirectly, exert a powerful influence on others and their surroundings.” From an autodidactic approach and through continuous research, Peter deconstructs his own photographic images, which he views as semi-finished materials. These images are removed from their original context and physically altered using various techniques. His work arises from an intense drive to create new artistic products through a mixed-media approach that embodies the processes of change, vulnerability, and transience.

Peter invites viewers not only to observe but to take a moment for conscious reflection. He encourages them to discover personal stories within the depths of his work, where the nuances of human experience and the intriguing complexity of everyday life come alive.

In the world of Peter Scherps, art is not merely an expression but a journey into wonder and self-discovery.
