Janne Gistelinck
Janne Gistelinck's work occupies the space where the human body becomes landscape — intimate yet unrecognizable, familiar yet strange.
Born and raised in Ghent, she graduated in 2019 with a Master's degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Textile Design, from LUCA School of Arts. Working primarily with the jacquard weaving technique, she creates large-scale tapestries and sculptural works that translate the complexity of bodily experience into woven form.
Her process begins with collage — layered compositions combining anatomical drawings, nature photography, and images of medical and technological instruments — rendered in a deliberately restrained palette of blue and grey. These designs, on which she may work for weeks, are then transferred to the loom thread by thread.
The result is a world of figures that merge and dissolve: a body that is at once a map and uncharted territory. Through her work, Gistelinck raises questions about vulnerability, loss, the limits of the human body, and our uneasy relationship with technology.
She invites the viewer not to find answers, but to wander, get lost, and look again.
