Edith De Doncker's paintings inhabit the space between dream and reality — a world where the familiar becomes strange and the subconscious takes shape on canvas.

Born in 2003 in Torhout, she graduated in 2025 with a Master's degree in Painting from LUCA School of Arts in Ghent, where she now lives and works.

Her process begins with collecting — personal photographs and found images that she assembles into collages before translating them onto canvas. She builds her works in layers: an acrylic base, refined with delicate oil paint details, and areas left deliberately open or transparent, inviting the viewer's imagination to complete what she leaves unsaid.

Edith considers herself a contemporary surrealist. Inspired by trailblazing women such as Dorothea Tanning, Frida Kahlo, and Leonora Carrington, she continuously explores the boundary between the conscious and the unconscious — and the way perception shifts from one person to the next.
